Call for Papers
The Scientific Committee encourages researchers, faculty members, teachers, psychologists and students to submit papers to the Conference. The papers should be written in English, the official language of the event.
The submitted papers can be of the following types: Symposia, Research Report, Project, Workshopand Poster presentation.
The submitted papers should be of at most 6 pages long for a Research Report, or a Project Report, and of at most 2 pages long for Symposia, Workshopsand Poster presentations, addressing, but not restricted to the following
TOPICS:
- mathematical creativity for all students, from all backgrounds, and of all ages,
- mathematical creativity, aptitude, and achievement,
- mathematical giftedness, talent and promise,
- mathematical creativity for individuals or teams, inside or outside the classroom,
- mathematics competitions.
Research Report
The goal of a research report is to present authentic research in the field of mathematical creativity and the education of gifted students. A Research Report should include:
- for empirical papers: focus of the paper, an indication of the theoretical framework for the study, an indication of and justification for the methodology used, and some relevant sample data and results.
- for theoretical/philosophical essays: focus or theme of the paper, an indication of the theoretical or philosophical framework within which the focus or theme of the paper is developed, a clearly articulated statement of the author's position about the focus or theme, and implications.
Each research presentation will be allowed a total time of 30 minutes: 20 minutes for the oral presentation and 10 minutes for discussion.
Project report
This type of presentation will include descriptions of the teaching practices, curricula, projects and programs aiming at the development of students' mathematical creativity and promotion of giftedness.
A project report should include purposes of the project, its tools, challenges addressed, and some outcomes that demonstrate the effectiveness of the project. Each program/project presentation will be allotted a total time of 30 minutes: 20 minutes for the oral presentation and 10 minutes for related questions.
Symposia
The goal of a symposium is to create dialogue and discussion on some important issues in the field of the conference. We expect that each symposium will result in research agenda for future research. Five symposia will be managed as parallel sessions once. The symposia will be focused on the selected topics related to that of the conference and coordinated by members of the international program committee and invited experts. The following symposia are planned:
Mathematical creativity and giftedness in:
- Kindergarten and elementary school
- Intermediate and secondary school
- Informal and non-formal activities
- Teacher professional development
The symposia papers should focus on research ideas in the field, including outline of activities for the promotion of creativity, related authentic research questions, and suggested research procedures.
The short papers for symposia will be reviewed by the international program committee who will consider relevance of the submission to the topic and the agenda of the symposia.
The interactions resulting from a symposium can be further developed as research papers involving the collective work of teachers and researchers. The symposia will run simultaneously during a 90 minutes time slot.
Workshops
This type of presentation will require the active involvement of the participants, and will emphasize problem-solving and hands-on activities. Short papers (two pages only) should include rational, main purposes, mathematical topic, and the ways in which the participants will be involved in the activities. Each workshop will be allotted a total time of 90 minutes.
Poster Presentations
Poster Presentations are available for those whose work is more suitably communicated in a pictorial or graphical format or demonstration (e.g., computer program), rather than through an oral presentation. A two-page short paper must describe the content of the poster and its design.
During the conference there will an interactive poster session when the authors can discuss their findings in small groups and answer the attendees’ questions. During the specified time period, the authors are expected to be near their posters.
The acceptance of papers for all types of presentations will be based on the peer review process. The review forms are to be found here: The "Forms for reviewers" page. The Scientific Committee may suggest to the author(s) that they present some submitted papers as Poster Presentations. All the accepted papers will be published in the electronic proceedings.
The authors whose first language is not English are kindly requested to have their work proof read prior to submission by a proficient English speaker. Papers can be rejected due to a poor standard of English.
NOTE: Due to the large number of papers expected for this conference, the committee only allows an author to register for at most two papers.
